CHESS RULES
Most players will be familiar with the general rules of Chess, but please be sure to know a few of the less commonly known rules. These include the exact rules on Castling, and the En Passant.

GAME SCHEDULES
Games between two players should be played at a time that is convenient for both schedules. There are no fixed rules about this, just as long as the game gets played. However, unless otherwise decided by both players, it will be assumed that games are played during the day (ie. at lunch).
GAME PLAY
Games will be played in a relatively casual manner, with a goal of finishing a game within a one hour period. If after an hour the game cannot be completed, a second hour can be played or scheduled as soon after as possible.
If the game is not completed within two hours, the game must be recorded in its exact position. It will then be given to an impartial judge who will only see the board and no names, and decide if the game is a win on one side or the other, or a draw. This decision will be final.
CHESS BOARDS
If you have a decent board, please bring it in! Very small chess boards are difficult to look at for a long time, so the regular to large size are good. But, play with whatever you have available to you. Since there may be many games going on, the availability of boards might be low, so if you have one, it's recommended that you bring one in.
GAME PLAY RULES
For the round robin part of the tournament, a move will be considered complete when the piece is moved to a new square and the player lets go of the piece. At this point it cannot be taken back.
For the elimination round, the touch-move rule will be in effect. Specifically, if you touch a piece, it is the piece you must move. If you wish to adjust a piece on the board, you must let your opponent know verbally before touching the piece.
Advice, Audience, etc. Advice from others is not permitted, and the game should be moved to another location if there is interference. Having others watch is okay, as long as they are not disturbing the game, or helping and/or giving advice.
GAME RESULTS
The results must be reported via email to andrew.hoyer-chess@marketingtips.com and must include the following information:
Player Names
Who was White / Black
Date Played
Result (Win/Loss/Tie)
The email must be sent by the winner of the game, and must be CC'd to the loser.
TOURNAMENT PROCESS
In the first stage of the tournament, players will be split into groups for the round robin, where everyone plays all others in the group twice, once as white, once as black. This will be between 6 and 10 games in total.
Points are awarded as follows:
Win: 1 point
Draw: 0.5 point
Loss: 0 point
After the round robin is completed, the top four players will move on to the elimination finals. These will be four game matches, using the same point structure as the round robin.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
All round robin games must be played within the months of February and March 2006. Any games that are not finished by the last day in March will be assigned a Draw, and points awarded accordingly.
Players who have less than 75% of games completed will receive 0 points for unfinished games.
Players who withdraw from the tournament will be given a loss for remaining games, and a win to their opponents.
The elimination rounds will take place once all round robin games are finished.
